I'm devastated

We've come back from our weekend at the lake, only to find one of our cats is missing.

We both swear that she was upstairs when we left on Friday.

The cat sitter never saw either cat - she just came, refilled food, and changed the litter. She was in and out, and is familiar with our cats and their sneaky attempts to escape. She said she never had the door open long enough for a cat to escape, and I believe her.

We scoured the house. We searched the garage, in case she got out of the house and into the garage when we were packing.

We can't find Tigger anywhere.

My weekend has been ruined.

I want my baby girl back.

***ETA: Update - J found Tigger this morning, three houses up from us, hiding under a bush! She didn't look remotely concerned. Maybe she thought that since we were going on vacation, she should have one too?

We found her! She was just down the street, hiding in the bushes. Funny she didn't come home...

I'm so sorry to hear that. All I can suggest is advertising around the area just in case someone has seen her and checking in case she's got stuck locally - we've had cats lost in trees or in garages a couple of doors down that really hadn't gone far but went missing for a few days, so she might be really near.

We found her! You were right, she was near; she was just down the street hiding in the bushes, looking all the world as if she was just out enjoying herself.

Yay! I'm so glad you found her - it's the worst thing to lose a cat and not know what happened.

Agreed. That's what happened to poor Gussy - we still wonder if he might show up sometimes, although it's been way too long now :(

Oh no! Poor kitty! Obviously, check shelters, but also leave food out outside. Maybe she didn't leave the area?

Also, is it possible she got in behind a dresser or kitchen drawer? That happens with our kitties sometimes.

Hope she turns up. :(

We found her just down the street, not remotely concerned. Apparently she thought she needed a vacation too?

Thank you and they worked! We found her this morning about three houses down, hiding in the bushes. I think we were more concerned than she was.

You must be devastated. :(
From what I've learned a good portion of people who look for their kitties in the manner that others have suggested, usually find them.
Don't give up just yet. <3

That sneaky little Tigster has been found... apparently she thought she was also on vacation?

Here is my little story that I hope helps you to feel better.

Shortly after Clarice and I moved to Toronto, she went missing. The worst part was belatedly realizing that the basement window had a small tear in the screen. We had looked everywhere but she was no where to be found and her food was untouched.

Fast forward a few days. She'd found some impossibly small spot in an impossibly cramped corner to hide in.

I hope Tigger has done something similar and will eventually come out.

Oi! So Clarice was trapped for several days? That's not good...

Tigger has been found! She was down the street a couple houses, hiding in the bushes. I think she was much less concerned than we were!

That mischievous cat wasn't trapped. She'd snuck into our roommates "smoking room" and hid behind a chair in the far corner. She didn't come when called or anything. I think the only reason we found her was because one of the boys had sprawled in the chair and happened to notice that there were a tiny pair of eyes looking up at him.

I'm glad that you found Tigger! Crazy kittens, eh? I wouldn't be surprised if she thought she was having some grand adventure that you ruined.

D: How awful. I hope she comes back soon. Put little piles of food all over, and keep an eye on them to see if any move. I bet she's having a grand old time.

Cats always seem to try to find a way to ruin a perfectly good vacation. They're evil that way.
