My daughter, the lovely little cherub that she is, decided she was going to secretly steal the Peneten cream and smear it all over herself. In particular, she was going to target those areas where we usually have to smear her eczema cream (ankle, arm, face). After she'd thoroughly Peneten'd herself (it was a full container), she decided she really needed to top it off with vaseline.

So much for the carpet. In the end a degreaser worked, although it still feels a bit slimey to me.

She knew she was in trouble as soon as she saw us. Immediately burst into tears. We tried to wash her off in the shower, but it took a long time because she was so waterproof.

She'd obviously tried to clean it up a little bit, as when we went to get some baby wipes, the container was covered in Peneten cream!

I hate myself for laughing but I am soooo glad my kids are grown and even 15 years after changing my last diaper, I know the feeling of Peneten and how waterproof it is.

Gosh.. did that not hurt her eyes rubbing them like that?

I'm sure it did. I was actually a little bit concerned about zinc poisoning and getting it in her eyes, but the container said to just rinse throughly, and once she'd calmed down and it was off her face, she didn't express any discomfort.

Maia did that as a toddler. What a pain!

It's totally a pain! I wish I could say this is the first time she's gotten into the Peneten, but no... it's not. It's definitely the first time she's smeared a whole container of Peneten and vaseline though.

The amount of mess was really quite staggering. And it kept spreading so easily! I was reminded of your ink-on-the-carpet posts ;)

I honestly think it's going to be one of those messes that we have to keep cleaning for the next week or so, because it never really feels clean!

Whoa.

That is a lot of peneten, which, I don't even know what that is but yikes.

Poor kid. And you. That's crazy.

It's this super thick diaper cream that acts as a barrier between the wet diaper and sensitive skin, and helps get rid of diaper rash (zinc content). The consistency reminds me of tar, and is only slightly less difficult to get off. It is a petroleum based product, so a degreaser was the way to go.

That child was waterproof after that. The water in the shower just beaded off of her.

Oh my.

I take it you'll be locking all this stuff up from now on?

The Peneten, yes... I'm not sure why it was out actually. The vaseline is something we use at every diaper change though, so she really just needs to learn to stay away from that stuff.

Well, that said, it is not ever really possible to truly child-proof a house. They will always get into stuff that you never even considered.

You are so right! Why do they do that?

Yeah, the point at which a house is 100% child-proof is the point at which it's no longer very easy to live in.

Since she was putting it on the places you guys normally do she probably started off imitating what you do, then it felt cool and all of a sudden it was all gone and all over her lmao poor thing must have been so stressed when you caught her. :D

She was so stressed, it probably took her a good hour and a half to calm down afterwards! We didn't even yell at her or anything... she just looked at us and knew she was in trouble lol.

That is, without a doubt, something I would have done as a child.

Yeah, it's totally something Jason would have done. She definitely takes after her dad.
