My baby is two!

I can't believe my little girl is two years old today... it seems unbelievable. She's still a baby to me, and I suspect she always will be.

I have never been so happy as I have been since she has become a part of my life.

Alexandra, I hope you will continue to fill our lives with joy and happiness, and that we won't be disappointments to you as parents. We love you so very much, and we want to give you the world.

We will be with you forever and always.

Well, the celebrating of birthdays was orignally just the countingof years to determine age. People needed to know a person's age to better determine their place in life. Apprentice's had to be a certain age to begin their study, and girls had to be a certain age to be deemed "marriable".

As time went on, actually only a few hundred years ago, royalty looked for reasons to throw a party, and what better occasion for a King to remind the people how special he was then to have a birthday party.

Eventually, as governments changed with people, birthdays became more than a "royal holiday" and everyone would celebrate them.

Nowadays, they are way overdone, like Christmas, and no one really remembers why they are celebrating them at all.
