Kitties, Kitties and More Kitties

Last Sunday we got the two kitties - the mama-daughter pair. The mama is named Tigger and the baby is named Ziggy. Both are a lovely fluffy calico and are adorable. Unfortunately Tigger is currently in heat and is driving me a little nuts. We have an appointment to get her fixed in two weeks.

A good friend, her little boy (born in the fall) was a premie and has been having some pretty serious breathing problems. As a matter of fact he's stopped breathing several times now and has had to be hospitalized with pneumonia three times so far this year. She's been told to get rid of her cat, and to make a bunch of household changes to try to improve her boy's chances. I agreed to take her cat. I was hoping I'd have more time to get the vet stuff on Tigger and Ziggy done first, so I'd a) ensure they were healthy, b) reduce the risk of behavioural problems by spaying Tigger and Ziggy before introducing Kitty who is fixed, and c) spread the vet bills over a longer period of time. Unfortunately her boy got sick again and she had to have her kitty (named Kitty), out by Monday. If I didn't take Kitty, she was going to the SPCA. I figured that since Kitty was already doomed to the SPCA, that it really couldn't hurt to give it a try, that if there was pissing and shitting all over the house, that it would only be over the weekend, and then Kitty could go to the SPCA if it got too bad. So Kitty arrived at my house on Saturday afternoon.

I'm keeping them seperate for now. Tigger and Ziggy are in the basement, and I let them out several times a day to run around the house, and Kitty I keep in the computer room, and when Tigger and Ziggy are locked up, Kitty gets to run around. Interestingly enough, Tigger and Ziggy aren't remotely concerned about Kitty. They seem to be quite tolerant of her and haven't paid her any attention at all. Not worried about smells or anything.

Kitty, on the other hand, is much more concerned about Tigger and Ziggy. At first, whenever Tigger meowed with her "heat" meow, Kitty would growl. Now she seems more used to Tigger's yowls, and isn't reacting much at all to them. Yesterday afternoon, Ziggy came out of the basement and hid under the main floor couch. We couldn't get her out, so we decided to leave her there since Kitty mostly stays upstairs and hasn't ventured onto the main floor yet. Well wouldn't you know it, Kitty made a bee-line for the mainfloor couch. Kitty growled at Ziggy, and then ran upstairs and raced under the upstairs couch to hide. Ziggy was just lounging, and I don't think she even blinked.

I'm really hoping that Kitty will eventually get used to, and will accept both Tigger and Ziggy. It appears that they're ok with her, and there hasn't been any pissing or shitting at all. I'm encouraged.

It occurred to me that "Kitty" isn't the ideal name for Kitty since we tend to call all our kitties "Kitty" on occasion... so I'm trying to think of a new formal name for Kitty. If anyone's got some ideas for a good female cat name, I'm all ears :)

I'm a bit worried about the vet bills. We aren't doing so well with me on pogy right now, and what with Buzzer's old vet bills, and the new kitties having to have all their shots and getting two of them spayed, this is hurting hard. Fortunately my dad has hired me to do the corporate books, so that should be a little bit of help. I don't think that first cheque will come soon enough though. Dad's paying Jason, so it won't screw up with the pogy.

Marisha says No, but I've always wanted to name a cat "Piwacket" after the cat in the movie "Bell, Book and Candle."

Just my thought.

I'm wondering how to pronounce Piwacket?

I feel that there needs to be a pet named Pasha, just because it sounds so cuddly. Also it's fun to shout. Trust me, I shout it all the time.

I like Pasha. I really do. Hmm...

For some reason though, I'm needing a name that would end well in "ie" or "y"

i bet if we had pictures of the new kitties it would be easier to think of a name. ;)
it certainly is interesting watching our kitties shake down together, i hope you have as much fun and less pissy panted moments by the kitties.
