My baby Buzzer :(

It seems that Buzzer's in kidney failure.

We got her some medication last night that will hopefully help to keep her kidneys perfused. We have to change her soft-food diet to something that's low phosphorous/low protein. If she's open to all of this, it may extend her life a little bit. She's going to continue to have accidents because she can't concentrate her urine.

I can't lose my baby girl now.

Aw, Shar. :(((

I had a kitty a while back that we had to put down because of kidney failure. :\ He'd keep making messes everywhere, and we just couldn't tolerate it . . . then again, cleaning up cat urine all the time gets really nauseating. *twitch*

But I hope it helps her! We couldn't do very much for Boots (my cat that had it), but I hope you're able to. ^^;

She seems to be improving slightly, which is good... but it's a bit early to tell.

I so sorry to hear buzz is having these issues. I had a kitty with a previous GF who went through kidney failure. We had to give her nightly IV fluids at home. Although that seems awful, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. And it seemed to help her for quite some time (months). Eventually it was time to say goodbye, but we were able to buy her and us some good times.

I'll send all my best thoughts her way...

This was presented as one of our options, but the vet suggested we go with the meds and food first and see how she responds. Not having actually administered a cat IV before, I'd sorta like to try wrapping my head around caring for a newborn first before I take anything else on. I'm hoping that the meds will help for a few months while I can adjust to certain lifestyle changes.

Oh ouch! :-(

I had a cat in kidney failure too, long time back. We might have caught it in an earlier stage than Buzzer's -- not sure. She was eighteen. We switched her diet and gave her subcutaneous fluids, though the subcue wasn't done as often as we "should have". She lived a few more years. She eventually passed away from something else entirely.

*big big hugs*. It's so sad to see them grow old beside us when we're going to live many more years.

Her living a few more years sounds encouraging. Seems Buzzy's taken to the meds as well as the food, so that's a big plus. After the baby is born and I'm a bit more adjusted to it, I think we're going to try the subcue fluids.

oh no!!1

my brother's cat went through that, once they changed her diet and got her on the medication she pull through and is still doing fine.

For how long has she been on meds/new food? I'm trying to get a bit of a read on Buzzer's expected lifespan.
