I'm sick

Yeah I haven't been posting much because I'm sick. It started on Monday with a sore throat, and rapidly progressed. I woke up Tuesday and felt like crap, but I figured I could still get stuff done at work. By 11am, I knew that it was a mistake, and since I clearly wasn't capable of driving myself, I called for a ride home. I've been in bed mostly, unable to stay in a vertical position for any great length of time. Completely unable to watch tv, or read since my head and eyes hurt so much. I get up for about 1/2 hr at a time to read lj, since that's currently my only source of entertainment. If my comments haven't been making sense it's probably because I'm delerious.

Doped myself up decently with OTC meds, but stupid 12 hr meds wear off after 8 hrs and leave 4 hrs of suffering and torture. I dragged my ass to the doctor's this morning since I haven't felt this bad in about 10 years, and sure enough, I've got a sinus infection and ear infection. Yay. At least now I've got anti-biotics for it.

I even broke down and used Otrivin nasal spray, which I'm not supposed to use since I was addicted to it, and lost part of my sense of smell due to it. It was the only thing that allowed me to breath. Guess I'll have to wean myself off again when I'm through with this other crap. Right now the cold (if that's what it is) is in the coughing stage, so I'm awake and can't lie down due to hacking up a lung. Hopefully this will pass soon, I think I'm out of cough syrop :/

Re: WHISKEY.
Heh, I haven't been brave enough to try the whiskey, but whatever's in that Nyquil seems to work wonders :P

Re: WHISKEY.
I find a double shot of Nyquil followed by a shot whiskey works best. Of course, by best I mean causes to me to believe that I'm Julius Caesar and I'm conquering the world. But I'm into that sort of thing.

Hope you feel better soon.

I'm pretty good with pain. Broken bones, cuts, burns and sprains hurt but don't seem to incapacitate me like other people. For some reason I have a very high tolerance. But what gets me sent to my room is any pain from the neck up. Toothaches, headaches, sinus infections, ear infections F*&K ME UP!
I'm feeling your pain. Just thinking about it is starting to get to me. The cough is probably from your sinuses draining. Drink a lot of fluids.... it seems to break up easier that way.

Feel better soon.

Actually, I'm very much the same way. I may whine and complain, but truth is, muscle pulls/strains/broken bones don't bother me nearly as much as freakin head colds.

Yeah I think I've had so much orange juice, I'm about to float away.

Cold
I'm sorry you're sick. I am coming down with a cold myself. I'm fixing to go to the drug store to get some vitamin C, cold eze cough drops(they do seem to work) and some echinacea powder I have to mix with water. All of that(especially the cold eze zinc cough drops) seem to help. Anyway, I wanted to give you a big teddy bear hug and hope it passes quickly for you.

I simply hit reply, so someone else may have covered this ground already, but I stilll have to say it.

Are you a fucking moron, or just acting like one?!?! You state that you used to have a dependency upon a drug and you're taking it anyway. My normal comment at this point would be, "What are you high?" but that's wasted as you must be to be doing so. Don't waste either of our time with justifications.

If you know you're an alcoholic, you don't do shit like use Listerine or Robitussin, no matter what excuses you can provide. If Otrivin was prescribed you ask for something else that does not have the chemical in it to which you became dependent. This should not be news to you and shouldn't have even gotten to the point where statements were required at all.

If it's some OTC crap you bought of your own accord you need a swift kick in the ... I'd say head, but that probably wouldn't help. Whatever knocks some sense into you ... walk into someone's boot really fast with it.

Heh, well...

No I wasn't high, and unfortunately Otrivin doesn't get you high. It's one of those things you can buy at a drug store off the shelf... not even OTC. I've been using it for colds since my mother gave it to me when I was about 4. The problem with using a medication that you're comfortable with, is that you forget to read the instructions everytime you use it, becuase you're just used to using it when needed.

Back about 10 years ago, I had a really bad cold (probably something like this one) that I'm sure turned into a sinus infection. My nose was pretty badly plugged, and the cold lasted a while. The instructions on the bottle say to use it once every 12 hours for a maximum of 3 days. Seeing as how I was used to using it as needed (and never needed anything more than what the bottle said), I never knowingly exceeded that before. This time, however, the cold lasted much longer, and me being oblivious and not having read the instructions, didn't realize that I should have stopped using it after day three. I was going on to day 14 when I realized that my cold seemed to be gone except for the nasty congestion in my nose, and the Otrivin seemed to not be working anymore.

When I went to the doc, I was surprised as hell to find out I'd gotten myself addicted to the Otrivin (which only takes 4 days to become physically dependant). What it does, is result in a rebound congestion once the desired decongestant effect wears off (that's when you're addicted to it), and then eventually it loses it's effect on you whatsoever. You also temporarily burn out some of the smell receptors (at least my understanding was that it was temporary) and lose part of your sense of smell for a while (mine came back).

It took me about 3 weeks to be able to be able to breathe through my nose again after recovering from the Otrivin addiction, and it was pure hell, and I certainly wouldn't go through it again lightly. The fact that I actually considered risking renewing a physical dependance on the drug was supposed to be a testament to how incredibly bad I was plugged up (as in ZERO chance of air exchange... couldn't even blow nose). I had exhausted every possibility I could think of, and it was a last resort. I'm not sorry I used it on the four occasions I did, and I'm not using it anymore because I'd rather NOT deal with the rebound congestion again. ;) (Crazy, not stupid!)

It was a calculated risk, and one that so far, I'm glad I took. Had I not made it so that I could breathe, I would have been completely unable to sleep or function the last few days, and would likely be even sicker and still unable to go to work (I managed to make it in on Friday, so this is a good thing).

I totally appreciate that you're concerned about me though, and thank you, I feel loved <3.
