Poor snuggly Buzzer

I'm somewhat encouraged. Buzzer's new medication is in a triple fish paste (three kinds of fish pureed) and it seems she loves it and is begging for more. *relief*

Also, it seems that she adores her new food... she's lost so much weight she's under 5 pounds now, but in the last 24 hours she's eaten enough of the new food for an 8 pound cat. *more relief*

Since the beginning of the week, she's been hanging out on the main floor and isolating somewhat. Then there was that one day when she came upstairs in the middle of the night to pee on me in my bed. That next day was the day we positively knew she was sick and started looking into potential treatments. She's now had two treatments of medicine and two days worth of the new food. Last night, in the middle of the night, she came upstairs to visit us, to snuggle, and purr her little heart out.

A break from her self-imposed isolation is very encouraging, and when Jason went down to visit her in the middle of the night, she jumped up and snuggled with him... also encouraging. I hope things continue to improve and she comes back upstairs again.

Once I have the baby and adjust to my new lifestyle, I plan on adding nightly fluids to her treatment regimen, and then we can also add phosphate binders to further reduce the strain on her kidneys. She hasn't had any accidents other than when she deliberately peed on me earlier this week. That is also encouraging.

Thank you to all who sent the well-wishes. It really warmed my heart, and some of your stories of having cats in kidney failure living for years with proper care and treatment has been very encouraging.

I love you guys.

I was dicussing this with my boyfriend last night and he said we should offer our Inky's kidney to help.
Then we got to talking about do they do transplants for animals.
Then we got to talking about are there different blood types for animals too...would they be compatable.
It was an interesting conversation.

Maybe something to look into?

You're so sweet!

Since I live in the same city as the only Western Canadian Vet College, they definitely do transplants... the question is, would it be worth it? Buzzer is a bit older and well... I'm not sure of the cost... but maybe there wouldn't be much of a cost because it's a teaching institution and they have to teach people how to do it anyway?

I'm not sure about compatibility issues... it would sure be interesting to look into though, in the event that things don't improve with regular treatment.

Thank you so much! ♥

i was happy to see those storys of positive treatment of kidney failure, as when I read your post, my heart broke for you.

I think buzzer will pull through this, as she loves you sooooooooo much.

I hope so. She's just an adorable little snuggly kitty, and she thinks she's a little people. At least she seems to have perked up somewhat.

I'm so glad that things are taking an upswing here.

I'm still worried about you all...

I'm still worried too, but at least I'm not as anxious. Last night she came up and snuggled with me for two whole hours before she retreated back to the kitchen... so that's a good thing!

I hope she's not terribly unhappy with me. We've tried so hard to give her a happy kitty life.
