Heh, Yeah I think I've switched back and forth between letting everyone comment and only registered users comment. But meh, right now, it's open to all.

I use filters, too. There is one for just the LJ Girl's and then another for LJ Folks that I really value as far as thought and opinion... of course, you know you're in both, right?!

Ach, how cheesy did that sound?

so you post stuff just for lj girls that are on your list?

i remember one time being the only person left out of a friendsgroup - and i found out when someone emailed me the post. sadly i realized why i was left out and my heart was broken.

I don't know. I do the just friends commenting thing I think because by putting them on my friends list I am obviously saying "I trust you not to start shit." I still get the comments that non-friends leave and they can still be unscreened, which is how I got to you. But I like having the control.

Hmm... I think your settings might have changed, because when I wanted to friend you and leave a comment, it kept saying I was blocked from commenting as a non-friend. I actually snuck over to Holy's lj and commented on a comment you left there to get your attention :P

(I am teh sneaky!)

I understand what you're saying about it being nice to have the control though. Makes sense :)

When I first started my journal it was to start writing things and to maybe form a discussion with people. One of my rules is that anyone can comment and I won't delete comments. Another is that anything I don't want the world to read I mark private. The few entries of mine that are friends only are usually stuff that I wouldn't want the casual reader to see but don't mind those on my list reading.

So far I've not been involved in a LJ brouhaha but I suspect that is because of how I use the service. The truth is I don't comment a lot and therefore my "Friend Of" list is rather tame. At a glance you have posted over 7 times more comments than I have over a similar period of time. When interacting with so many different people it is far easier to have conflicts erupt. All that to say I've never needed to go "Friends Only" or anything similar.

I'm a bit of a comment hog and pretty yappy to boot, so the large number of comments isn't too surprising to me :P

I've never really considered my journal friends only, because I pick and choose how to mark each individual entry, and like you tend to post entries that are friends only that I wouldn't want the casual reader to see but don't mind those on my list reading. Of course having said that, I look back at my lj and see that the majority of my posts are friends only. Oops. :P

I like the idea of the journal being an open forum place. It's kind of interesting.

I let anyone comment, I'm an attention whore, I don't get flamed too much.

There is a setting under your "Info" page where you can set message board options. One of those is "Who can reply to your entries". I had thought you deliberately set that. Now this may be my ignorance but isn't going friends only more than just setting your posts to only be viewable by your friends? If so that setting should do the trick otherwise I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I love getting my comments emailed to me.
hotmail has become my nerve-center of LJ.

Like sometimes my friends in real life who check my LJ tend to forget
that I go by my middle name,or don't like to put certain personal details for ALL to see (like exgirlfriends names), but I try to catch those comments and delete them. again.. hotmail rocks for that.

How's stuff? Everyone seems to be in a blue funk lately and it pains me
to see those I care about going through rough times :(

I know! Hotmail rocks! Except that it won't let me reply to comments direclty from the email anymore... I have to go click on the link and go directly to the post.

I've had that problem too, had some folks that know me really well make the odd comment that gives a bit more of my identity away than what I'm necessarily comfortable with. I've discovered that the "screen" option works well with those... you can screen comments after they've been posted, and I find it works :)

I turned off the anonymous comments when someone on my lj flist told all his friends that he was being stalked by an ex who was reading everyone on his list and leaving nasty comments anonymously. I don't need that it my life! Besides, no one outside of lj knows that I even have an lj!!

I definitely get those emails, how else would you know if someone had replied? One of those great mysteries of life...

Yeah I did the same thing for a while... turned off anon comments. But then I had a strange change of heart and enabled them again. Of course I haven't received any since them, but meh :P

Two of the people on my list (that I know of), told me that they didn't get their comments emailed to them. That's when I clued in that they probably hadn't read half my comments since I don't always make them at the same day of the post. I thought it might be useful to find out who doesn't, and also, why not since I'm nosy :P
